The Mare is a Ghost that can Hunt more often in the dark in Phasmophobia. The Ghost can Hunt when the player has 60% Sanity in the dark but can’t Hunt unless the player has 40% if the lights are on. As a result, the Mare relies heavily on the generator being off and will never turn it out. This is how to identify a Mare in Phasmophobia.
All Mare Evidence in Phasmophobia
TheMare’s unique set of evidence is theSpirit Box,Ghost Orbs, andGhost Writing. They will turn off the generator as a means of keeping the Investigation Area dark, increasing the Sanity threshold at which it can Hunt.
Mare Strengths and Weaknesses and what they mean in Phasmophobia
TheMare’s Strengths and Weaknesses are written in the Journal as:
The Strength of the Mare refers to its ability to Hunt more often in the dark and the higher amount of Sanity required for it to Hunt. Most Ghosts require around 50% Sanity before they can start Hunting, but a Mare will be able Hunt at60%Sanity if they spawn in an unlit room. As a result, Mares will try to turn off the generator and turn off the lights if they are on. They can alsoblow up the lightbulbas a Ghost Event to verify they can Hunt.

The Weakness of the Mare refers to its lowered chance of Hunting and the lowered amount of Sanity required for it to Hunt. The Mare will not be able to Hunt players unless they are at under40%Sanity if their Ghost Room is lit.Candles do not workin weakening the Mare and will Hunt at 60% Sanity in an unlit room regardless of whether there are candles lit inside.

Tips for dealing with a Mare in Phasmophobia
With theSpirit Boxas part of its unique evidence, the Mare will require players to have the lights turned off to get a response. The Spirit Box doesn’t work with the lights on, requiring that the Ghost Room has the lights turned off.Lampsdo not count against the Spirit Box being unable to work, making it so players can retain their Sanity while using their equipment.
When playing on Nightmare, with one of their evidence hidden, the Mare must be identified through its behavior instead. Players can test for Mares by turning on the lights and seeing if the Ghost turns off the lights quickly. The Mare will break the bulb in rooms as well, giving players more clues to identifying it.
